Cerastone Surfaces & Material Handling

Fabricating Cerastone involves a number of techniques and tools that are common to hard surfaces of differing types. Whether the material is a natural stone or a man made material like Cerastone is, it must be handled, maneuvered, loaded, and unloaded. This takes various engineered quartz equipment. In the fabrication shop and on the road, there are occasions where Cerastone must be handled. In this article we will briefly look at some of these times.

What Material Handling Entails

For Cerastone products, material handling involves many of the same concepts as other engineered quartz. But what exactly does that entail? For one, material handling involves simply storing Cerastone in a warehouse or a slab yard. Another part of material handling includes loading and unloading Cerastone for vehicles. Finally, when we say "material handling", we may be talking about maneuvering and/or positioning Cerastone slabs. This could be to cut the material or to finish it, either way, it is a facet of material handling.

Storing Cerastone Products

Slabs in fabrication shops can sometimes sit for a period of time before they are used for creating a surface. That is where the storage aspect of material handling comes in. Cerastone slabs need to be kept somewhere when they are not being used. Fabricators make use of a rack for storing Cerastone to keep the slabs in until they are ready to use them.

Cerastone Transport Products

Fabrication shops require a number of pieces of equipment to operate smoothly. One of those is a single sided a frame cart for Cerastone or similar product. Why is that the case? Well, the easiest way to say it is that it makes the work easier and smoother by allowing the Cerastone slabs to be moved on a fixture rather than without one. Some of the transport carts can have casters (wheels) added to them so they can be loaded and rolled. Whether you are using a rolling cart in the shop or an a-frame along a wall of the delivery van, these units are practical.

Unloading & Loading Cerastone

In the shop Cerastone slabs, like other surface materials must be lifted during the loading and unloading process. To do this, workers will inevitably reach for some kind of lifter to pick up the sheet or slab of Cerastone. This because the weight of the slab requires one to get a good hold of the slab. One of the machines they reach for is a scissor clamp for lifting Cerastone slabs which is able to get ahold of the slab and keep it until the operator causes the device to release the stone. Like other products that are engineered quartz, Cerastone products are easier to transport and maneuver if you have the proper equipment to perform the necessary tasks. Choosing the right tools, machines and material handling equipment goes a long way toward that goal.
